I wanted to add more features, but more often than not I found myself battling the code in fundamental places, so I decided to rebuild the foundation, without doing a full rewrite.

After running the old Virtual Chime doorbell in my house for several years, I had to start over and finally make all the wrong decisions right. This lead me to completely wiping the existing repository and rewriting everything in C++ and build a custom Linux for it.

Building side projects is an essential part of my life as software developer, even when I know that no one will ever see or use them. I build things for me. Solving a problem or improving something in a way that feels unique to me. I always enjoyed the process of coding. It feels great to create something line by line. To see a progress from a blank page or app to a solution that I want to use is utterly satisfying. The list of new tasks to do always grows faster than the completion of those tasks. Especially the more work I complete.

As the year ticks over and the Christmas holidays give me some time to think about the past year, it’s time for the yearly refresh of my personal page. Two weeks of tinkering and playing around to find the new way to describe me in form of code.
